About the event
New Orleans has always had a way of reaching further than it looks.
What’s made here doesn’t stay here. It moves—downriver, outward, into other places, other stories, other histories.
And at one point, it helped shape the outcome of a war.
Higgins boats—designed and built in New Orleans—were used to land Allied troops during World War II, most notably on D-Day. They changed how soldiers reached shore, how invasions were carried out, and ultimately how the war moved forward.
That story didn’t just happen in shipyards.
It reached into neighborhoods like this one.
